The Brief

HCA Coating Ltd is a long established trade coater, based in Andover Hampshire, servicing the South of England and specialising in high quality powder coating to the defence, electronics, building and manufacturing sectors.

HCA operate from a 25,800 square foot premises with full pre-treatment facilities and five production lines catering for seven meter long products. Services include project management, specialised masking and specification planning.

With considerable changes in the Trade Coater market over the years, HCA have had to adapt and change with the times, through new markets or new application technologies.

To maintain a competitive advantage in a tough market and offer customers the highest quality coatings at competitive prices, HCA felt that they needed to review the latest technologies and developments in the coating equipment market and so contacted Hi-Tec Spray Limited.

The Solution

The Southampton branch of Hi-Tec Spray was asked to demonstrate the ITW Gema OptiFlexB unit. Following demonstrations within production situations a total of six OptiFlex units were purchased.

HCA achieved an average powder saving of 18% of powder with the new ITW Gema equipment, as well as improved application consistency resulting in a far superior finish quality. The programmable control offered with the OptiflexB also ensured continuity of surface finish to the customers, ensuring that the units achieved payback inside the first 12 months.

When Hi-Tec Spray informed HCA that ITW Gema had launched the new OptiFlex®2 powder unit, HCA immediately took one on trial. Once again the benefits of the new technology were evident.

The Optiflex®2 showed further improvements in the application of metallic powders plus marked improvement in lay down consistency. It also has the benefit of PCC mode which is excellent on fine detail work with superior penetration into very tight areas.

The Result

Adam Poyser, Managing Director of HCA Coating commented, "Again ITW Gema have launched a product that HCA feel that we cannot overlook. Anything that offers improved quality and reduced powder usage must be part of our continued investment plan. Our customers now, more than ever, need constant high quality finishing at competitive prices with extremely high service levels. With the introduction of the new Optiflex®2 unit HCA will be able to continue to maintain its competitive edge''.

Adam continued, "HCA have old fashioned values one of which is The Customer is King. We endeavour to offer better service than our competitors and we make no false promises. Working with companies like Hi-Tec Spray, means that we can continue to be a customer focused organisation offering the best value coating solutions."
